In his day and age, although we have all the tools, technology, information & the drive to create, we sometimes need a tangible personal space where we can get reassured. Sometimes we need to be able to talk to like minded people or just get a pat on the back in order to feel motivated.
‘Makers of Barcelona’ is a collaborative community initiative started by Cecilia Tham that provides all this and more! The one positive thought that drives this initiative is ‘If you think it, You Can Make It; If you think it, You can build it; If you think it, You can Be it’
MOB is a thriving community of over 200 creative, innovative and business savvy people from all over the world, who come together & share the same platform to take a project from idea to completion, all under one roof. It is trying to add a new dimension to the word MAKER by defining it as a person who can make things happen for himself. This community is situated inside a former textile factory in the centre of Barcelona’s Eixampla district. The factory has been totally remodeled and now provides a much needed alternative to working from home.
Working in communities is intrinsically rewarding as it brings about social bonding, interaction and co-operation. MOB provides an environment that enables a person to think out of the box. One can avail facilities that help with testing, prototyping, marketing and releasing of a project. It is a reveling place for co-working & helps bring the creative community together by serving as a meeting place & networking. Apart from this, regular events & skill development workshops are held. It is therefore not surprising to know that over 35 companies and other universities have chosen MOB as their source of inspiration & learning.
The ‘Makers of Barcelona’ community calls out to people to be proactive & to not wait for opportunities but, to create one. It appeals for a need to use skills constructively & to discover new ones in the process. Last, but, not the least, there is a great need to create a web of sustainable talented pool of MAKERs who make things happen.
