Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become words.

Keep your words positive because your words become your behaviour.

Carla – the daughter of the cop

Drew this for a short story written by Anoop Bharadwaj.- https://anoopbharadwaj.wordpress.com/

This is my first attempt at illustrating for a story written by another person. Welcome your feedback!

Original Source: the https://anoopbharadwaj.wordpress.com/2015/05/14/carla-the-daughter-of-the-cop/

The Bengaluru city Police Commissioner’s prodigal son-in-law never ceased to baffle the top cop. Barely three months into the marriage, Rohan displayed excessively erratic behaviour in sporadic fashion. Nothing could be predicted of him. The first four weeks after the wedding witnessed what was a continued party.  Rohan, and consequently his wife, would cut cakes at sharp 10AM celebrating each day of marriage.  ‘Happy tresdieversary’ was written on the cake on the third day after the wedding.  Commissioner Da Cunha later learnt that the word was coined by Rohan after a quick internet research. The newlyweds would step out of the house at around 2PM visibly intoxicated, but smartly dressed nevertheless. They would return at around 8 or 9, start chanting psalms, which bewildered many, as Rohan came from an orthodox Hindu family. In the second month, for just under a week, Mr & Mrs. Rohan had set up an office, with an elaborately done glazed steel signboard that read ‘Carla’.  By the eighth day, the office had disappeared. For the next two weeks, in the chilly month of January, the couple had taken off to Munnar, without a single woolly or a jacket packed in, as observed by the domestic help.

It wasn’t that Da Cunha was completely unprepared for a binging of sorts. Carla, his only daughter, was a notorious reveller and used to make the headlines in the local tabloids quite often. But she had never crossed the limits of the law.  A graduate of English literature, she had done a course in Physics on a whim. Not that she tried to meld her apparently disparate sets of knowledge to present a new thought to the world or anything like that.  She would never give a rationale to her random pursuits. People started dismissing her as a result of being in her influential father’s endowment, coupled with her aspiration to be a newsmaker. On her part, Carla, successful in working herself out to a svelte figure, dressed without inhibitions but stunned many the other way when she would come  attend socio-religious gatherings draped in elaborately woven Kanchipuram silk sarees . Da Cunha had given her security cover, inexplicably having it accounted for in the department’s books.  So, Carla would never suffer a scratch even if she were to pose in the nude. When she was interviewed by the media a couple times, she surprised people again by her statements on hard work, respect for the elders, and, on the virtue of virginity before marriage. In fact, she was going steady with Rohan, and never had taken off with him outside the city, nor was she seen with him after dark.  This had reinforced Da Cunha’s belief in his daughter’s choices, and made him readily accept Rohan as his son-in-law.

However, all said and done….

Three more months later

—- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —-

Two more companies are known to have been registered in Carla’s name – Carlacious and Carladen – neither operating now.  Enquiry reveals that Carlacious was a food joint and Carladen was a holiday ideas company. Her whereabouts have been ascertained but she’s unreachable.

Rohan is making some noises here and there. He  doesn’t live with Carla, and has been spotted commuting to work. An analyst gig at Goldman Sachs. A couple of his reports have been published in financial journals.

—- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —-

Da Cunha is none the better for his confusion still

—- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —- —-

Carla has just returned home. She doesn’t look very different, but her face betrays uncertainty. Rohan asks her “You must have made your notes. What do you think?”

Carla says, “Maybe it’s just our country and not the world”

“You are saying our country still doesn’t offer limitless possibilities?”

“Not for your average chap on the road. My being in a position of influence didn’t get me that far, just think of others”

Da Cunha has his moment of reckoning.

He utters regretfully, “Wish I were never a Commissioner, or you were born to a different father”

MOB : Makers Of Barcelona

Cecilia ThamMOB logo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw-_KoBJq_Q, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Pu1yQydg6s

In his day and age, although we have all the tools, technology, information & the drive to create, we sometimes need a tangible personal space where we can get reassured. Sometimes we need to be able to talk to like minded people or just get a pat on the back in order to feel motivated.

‘Makers of Barcelona’ is a collaborative community initiative started by Cecilia Tham that provides all this and more! The one positive thought that drives this initiative is ‘If you think it, You Can Make It; If you think it, You can build it; If you think it, You can Be it’

MOB is a thriving community of over 200 creative, innovative and business savvy people from all over the world, who come together & share the same platform to take a project from idea to completion, all under one roof. It is trying to add a new dimension to the word MAKER by defining it as a person who can make things happen for himself. This community is situated inside a former textile factory in the centre of Barcelona’s Eixampla district. The factory has been totally remodeled and now provides a much needed alternative to working from home.

Inside MOB  art-supermarket

Working in communities is intrinsically rewarding as it brings about social bonding, interaction and co-operation. MOB provides an environment that enables a person to think out of the box. One can avail facilities that help with testing, prototyping, marketing and releasing of a project. It is a reveling place for co-working & helps bring the creative community together by serving as a meeting place & networking. Apart from this, regular events & skill development workshops are held. It is therefore not surprising to know that over 35 companies and other universities have chosen MOB as their source of inspiration & learning.

The ‘Makers of Barcelona’ community calls out to people to be proactive & to not wait for opportunities but, to create one. It appeals for a need to use skills constructively & to discover new ones in the process. Last, but, not the least, there is a great need to create a web of sustainable talented pool of MAKERs who make things happen.

The Fiery Fall

The Fiery Falls

The Fiery Fall

Flow, flow, I say!

Let the water rush!

Let it gush!

Rage away!

Trash the harsh stones.

Shape them like they are your own.

Surge though the crevasses.

Nudge the passes.

Purge the furrow.

Run like there is no tomorrow.

Today is your day.

Leave the fears at bay.

Leap over the horizon.

Like a soul reborn.

Thank You!

Nominated for – The Sunshine Award

The Sunshine Award

The Sunshine Award

This afternoon, I had a surprise waiting in my notifications.

I was nominated by thehutownerblog (https://thehutownerblog.wordpress.com/) for The Sunshine Award.

The Sunshine Award is essentially a virtual ‘pat on the back’ for a positive or creative blog that inspires others or brings ‘sunshine’ to their world. Typically it appears to originate from one post that really ‘shines’ on that person’s day.

thehutownerblog (https://thehutownerblog.wordpress.com/) is as diverse as it can get! It contains wonderfully & thoughtfully created posts ranging from poetry to art to travel to philosophy. He really made my day. I could not contain my excitement. Being my first ever award nomination, I could feel my nervousness clawing on me, but, in a good way.

Do visit his blog and engage yourself inside his hut.

THANK YOU thehutownerblog (https://thehutownerblog.wordpress.com/) for this nomination!!!

Rules For the Nomination:

  • Thank the person who nominated you & Include the award’s logo in a post or on your blog.
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you. (You will find it on his/her blog)
  • Nominate a few other bloggers. (10 – 12) * You are not allowed to nominate the person who nominated you.
  • Notify the bloggers on their blog.

My answer to the questions from thehutownerblog

  1. Will Sunshine Award be of help for the bloggers if they are nominated?  Explain.

It sure does help as it keeps you motivated. The sense of achievement is profound, especially, for new entrants like me. Boy, what a feeling it is to know that what you write, what you create, is appreciated and loved by many. For some it is an inspiration, probably a cue o a new start, for a few others a jingle of memories. To realize that you were the centre of it all, the feeling is priceless, simply priceless.

  1. Cite your reason or reasons why Sunshine Award should be given some RESPECT and ATTENTION by the nominees just like the other awards.

An award is a gesture of recognition. Only if we embrace it for what it is, give it the respect and attention it deserves, will we feel & find its true value. It is a great way to bring the blogging fraternity together.

  1. Should the others feel bad if they were not nominated by their blogger-friend? Explain.

Nope. I do not think there should be any room for feelings while judging a blog for a nomination. It needs to be fair & square. The feelings will only dilute the cause of the award. My appeal to the fellow bloggers is not to take this to heart. Keep up with your awesome work. You are heard. Believe in your content. You will get your due in time.

  1. If you were not nominated, what should you do to get some attention for future nomination?

Do what you do best. Believe in your content. Keep up the awesomeness. Also, on the technical front, remember to tag & categorize the posts so that it is easy to look you up. You will be heard & given your due when the universe decides you are ready.

  1. Are you happy with your posts? Why or Why not?

My posts are a window to my soul, my thoughts and my feelings. I took to blogging as an escape into the virtual world. Art has always had a very special place in my heart. It is the address I look up to find my calm. In this journey I revived my love for poetry. I am happy with my posts as these have helped me in my journey of self-discovery

My questions to my nominees:

  1. Do you believe that there is someone watching over you, someone you can just feel & not see?
  2. What is the purpose of life?
  3. What is the one thing that you would go to or do to relieve your heartaches?
  4. What makes you happy?
  5. What do dreams mean to you?
  6. What about Nature do you adore?
  7. What is the one element, off the 5, that you would associate yourself with and why?
  8. What is your take on birth & death?
  9. What have you learnt from Nature?
  10. What part of the tree would you associate yourself with?

The Water Maiden

The Water Maiden

The Water Maiden

Somewhere,

In the depth of the night,

When the stars were at sight,

When the moon shone bright,

And fought with darkness with all her might!

When the ocean was no more a fright,

When the waves caressed the shore,

ready to be his bride.

When nature sang her lullaby,

There arose a maiden,

slow & steady yet elegantly.

Her garb was like white fire,

flickering gently in tune with the breeze.

Her hair shone like a thousand suns.

She gild over the ocean graciously,

twisting and turning effortlessly,

to nature’s melody,

forming bright lit waves exquisitely.

All stood still in awe of her beauty

A true vision she was, in all clarity

She is unseen by many

Granting audience is a rarity

But she is a part of nature you see

Connect with nature

And she’ll make you privy
